After a good night’s sleep and breakfast in Thurso at St Clair Hotel it’s a short drive to Scrabster to catch the ferry to Stromness on Orkney.

First stop of the day is to Musée de l’Orangerie which contains two rooms housing 8 of Monet’s Water Lilies compositions made up from 22 panels for a total length of 90.83 metres. The greens and blues and purples of the paintings make for a calming feeling while sitting and taking in Monet’s spectacular accomplishment.
Last minute break to Paris. Not the cheapest way to do it (£230 return) but ticket booked Tuesday for the last Eurostar train leaving at 20:00 Thursday, and 2h15mins later you’re in the centre of Paris!
